The Platinum Collection ripercorre gran parte della carriera musicale di Mike Oldfield. L’album non include brani dell’ultimo suo album, Light + Shade, prodotto dalla Universal.
Il box set è diviso in tre periodi distinti:
Il primo CD comprende brani dal 1973 al 1979, l’epoca di Tubular Bells e Ommadawn.
Il secondo CD, contiene brani composti tra 1979 e 1984, periodo in cui Mike pubblicò 7 dischi con canzoni come Moonlight Shadow, Blue Peter e Guilty.
In fine, il terzo album e dell’epoca Warner, con temi composti tra 1985 e 2002, come Sentinel o Amarok.
Sono inclusi archivi fotografici, interviste di Mike e altro materiale per collezionisti
Nota: il brano Legend è stato incluso come “brano nascosto” alla fine di Evacuation, nel secondo CD.
